BERKELEY - California senior attacker Ivan Rackov has been named this season's first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa Player of the Week after leading the No. 2-ranked Golden Bears to a pair of dominating victories last Saturday during the Cal Bear Invitational, it was announced Tuesday (Sept. 6) by MPSF commissioner Al Beaird.

Rackov, a 6-1, 177-pounder from Belgrade, Serbia, scored a career-high seven goals in Cal's 21-3 victory over No. 14 Santa Clara Sept. 3 and added five steals and four assists against the Broncos. Earlier in the day he had five goals with three assists, three steals, three ejections earned and a field block in the Bears' 16-5 victory over No. 13 UC Davis.

For the weekend Rackov totaled 12 goals with eight steals and seven assists as the Bears outscored their opponents, 37-8. Tuesday's award was his third MPSF POW honor. During the 2010 season in which Rackov was named both the ACWPC National Player of the Year and the winner of the Peter J. Cutino Award, he was the Oct. 18 and the Nov. 1 recipient of the conference player of the week accolade.

The Bears will enjoy this week off before venturing to the NorCal Invitational, Sept. 17-18, at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. Cal's 2011 squad is ranked No. 2 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association preseason poll and is tied with USC for first place in the MPSF Preseason Coaches' Poll. After finishing as the national runner-ups in 2010, the Bears will be attempting to win their NCAA-record 14th national men's water polo title in 2011. Cal's Spieker Aquatics Complex will be the host site of the 2011 NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship.
