BERKELEY - California head coach Mike Montgomery

On the game
"We had lots of chances to win. I thought we did everything we needed to do to win. We had at least three chances to end that game and we didn't, and that's disappointing. At the same time, we fought back many other times to get back in to give ourselves the chance. We got what we wanted on many occasions and failed to make the play. Arizona seemed to make the play when they needed to. The only chance they had were three-point plays and we should have been more cognizant of that."

On Derrick Williams
"We probably over exaggerated how we wanted to handle him. IMayes got those three threes and we shouldn't have given that up. We wanted to keep the ball out of the high post with Williams. He got 18 rebounds, anyway, so obviously we didn't do a good job of blocking us. He gets us in foul trouble because he's driving on our center. We tried to protect him. We did a pretty good job, but in the first half in particular, we exaggerated it so much that we ended up giving up threes that we might not have"

On moving on
"We have Washington up there. That's as tough of a game as you're going to have regardless. We know we can compete with anybody in this league. We have some games we could have won and we'd be right up there on top. You can't really fault the effort."

On Allen Crabbe
"He knew he had to penetrate and make plays off the dribble. They were forcing him off the line. They were not going to let him catch very many open shots. He ended up driving the ball and getting to the basket. We had to do that. We shot 41 or 42 foul shots. They're really a physical team. They chuck you and hold you and everything else. If you aren't aggressive you aren't going to get anywhere."

On the turnovers
"We did a good job getting what we wanted to get. We didn't make very many bad decisions. We took care of the ball pretty well. We had a couple of crucial turnovers at the end. Those are just plays you have to make."

On the locker room after the game
"It's a tough loss. What can you say? They knew they had chances. They played their hearts out. They played their butts off. They were tired. The guys did everything. If they could just get a little smarter in terms of knowing what's on the shot clock and knowing circumstances, those kinds of things we shut the door. We didn't do that."

On the crowd tonight
"It was good. People got excited. If they can't get excited about that game, then I don't know what we have to do."

Junior forward Harper Kamp

On the length of the game
"That was the most minutes I've ever played. I wasn't getting tired much. Once the overtimes hit, you get a extra surge of adrenaline of whatever it is, or maybe it's just that everyone slows down a little bit because everyone is tired."

On the feeling in the locker room
"Everyone was pretty bummed about it. I think it would be selfish of me to take full responsibility for the loss, even though I feel like I let us down on a few key plays. I think everyone feels that they're responsible. We all wish we could have made that play when we needed to, but we win as a team and we lose as a team. We've got to keep our heads up."

On the game
"We had plenty of chances to win, we just didn't capitalize."

On Derrick Williams
"We focused a lot on him. We prepared on him. We did a good job on him, but unfortunately, we let a few other guys get away from us. That's one thing you can't do if you're going to try and focus on a player who hurt you last time. You can't let other guys get loose."

On moving forward
For me, it gives me some confidence, ironically. Every time I see how hard my teammates play, it really gives me some encouragement. We have a lot of things we have to learn, myself included. Mentally, we have a lot to learn about what we need to do at the end of games to come up with the win."

Freshman guard Allen Crabbe

On the game
"We had a lot of opportunities to win, but Arizona just made their plays tonight so you've got to give them credit. It's a tough one." They're number one in the Pac-10. You've got to give it to our team. We competed for however many minutes we played tonight. We just came up short."

On moving forward
"We're just going to have to put this game in the past. We're going to have to get over it quick so we can keep competing and keep pushing for the top spot."

On the feeling in the gym
"It definitely was with the crowd into it like that. I've never played in front of that many people in my life. It was just a fun experience. The energy in the vibe in the whole gym was a fun experience. I enjoyed myself tonight."

On what this game shows
"We work hard all the time. We don't get a lot of credit from people saying that we're young and that we're not going to do very well. We compete every night. We showed everybody that we can play with anybody in this conference."
