STANFORD - Sophomores Hector Jimenez and Servando Carrasco both scored for No. 3 California as the Golden Bears defeated Drake, 2-0, Friday night at Stanford in the first match of the Stanford Nike Classic.
Cal remained undefeated at 4-0-2 on the season and handed Drake its first loss of the season, as the Bulldogs fell to 6-1.
Jimenez netted the game's first goal in the 26th minute following a give-and-go from sophomore Davis Paul. Carrasco scored the second goal, with an assist from sophomore Andrew Wiedeman, in the 77th minute when he blasted a shot that went through the keeper's hands. Carrasco took five shots and three of them were on goal.
The Bears outshot Drake, 19-11, and earned 12 of those shots in the second half. Wiedeman led the team with seven shots.
Cal next faces No. 8 Creighton Sunday, Sept. 21, at Edwards Stadium at 12 p.m. The Blue Jays knocked off Stanford on Friday night, 1-0, in the second game of the Stanford Nike Classic.
