BERKELEY - California alumni Calen Carr, Hector Jimenez and Josh Saunders will compete for the championship of Major League Soccer for the second straight season when they play in MLS Cup at 1:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Dec. 1, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Saunders and Jimenez captured the league title in 2011 when the Galaxy defeated Carr's Dynamo, 1-0, also in Carson.
The 2011 championship marked Saunders' third MLS crown and Jimenez's first.
"What a great honor it is for our soccer program to have three players returning to the MLS Cup final this year," Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said. "All three players have played a significant role in their teams' success this season. Calen, Hector and Josh have all had significant playing time and contributions to their teams throughout the year. We certainly wish all three of them the best of luck on Saturday. We know there's going to be at least one Golden Bear if not more holding the MLS cup on Saturday, and for that we have a lot to be proud of."
Saunders completed his Cal career in 2002, while Jimenez finished his Cal career after the Bears' run to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round in 2010. Carr ended his run as a Bear in 2005.
ESPN and TeleFutura will broadcast Saturday's rematch of the 2011 MLS final live.
