Ojai, California - Two California women's doubles teams finished second in their respective 16-field doubles finals Sunday afternoon at the Pac-10 Championship tournament in Ojai.
Bears No. 40 duo, Claire Curran and Anita Kurimay, battled past top-ranked doubles tandems through three rounds before facing No. 2 Stanford team Teryn Ashley and Marissa Irvin in the Main Draw final. The Cardinal downed Cal, 6-1, 6-2, to take the Pac-10 Doubles title. Missing from the tournament were Cal's defending NCAA Champion doubles team No. 4 Amanda Augustus and Amy Jensen.
Cal's Francesca La'O and Emeka Mayes mirrored their teammates' performance in Flight 2 of the doubles portion, also reaching the final after three rounds. La'O and Mayes made Arizona State's Celena McCoury and Ana Lucia Pereya work for their 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 Invitational final win.
In singles action, Bears Amy Jensen and Lisa Swierniak appeared respectively in the Main Draw and Flight 2 Invitational third-place matches after having both lost their semifinal matches Saturday. Jensen, ranked No. 45 in singles, faced Stanford's No. 5 Teryn Ashley, while Swierniak, who has only played in two of Cal's dual matches, took on Arizona State's Faye DeVera. The results were not available at the time of this release.
Stanford took both Main Draw titles in the last day of the Championships, with No. 3 singles Marissa Irvin picking up twin crowns after her doubles win and singles defeat of USC's No. 20 Ditta Huber.
The Bears return to team play when they host the NCAA Regionals May 15-16.
