SEATTLE, Wash. - California (3-0) defeated Seattle Pacific (0-2), 189.100-187.300, to remain undefeated this season Friday night at Brougham Pavilion Friday.
Debuting in her first collegiate meet, freshman Lauren Shipp won both the vault (9.650) and the beam (9.725) while fellow freshman and Seattle native My-Lan Dodd continued to perform impressively in the early season, taking the bars (9.850).
The Falcons (2-1) finished with a score of 187.300, over 3 points below last week's score when they defeated both UC Davis and Wisconsin-Stout. The Bears continued their winning streak against SPU, winning fifteen of the last sixteen meetings.
With another meet scheduled for Sunday, no Cal gymnast performed in the all-around so the Bears could remain fresh against Washington.
"I thought it was a really good opportunity for some of the newcomers as well as a few other veterans to be able get the experience on other events," said coach Trina Tinti.
Cal visits the Huskies Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bank of America Arena. The Bears defeated Washington in their last meeting, 194.000-192.175.
