Post game quotes: Dec. 3 vs. CSU Bakersfield
Dec. 3, 2011
Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb
"I was very, very happy with our defensive effort today. I'm sure that's the lowest Bakersfield score all year, and they are obviously a team that can put a lot of points on the board. I was happy with the separation that we got at the end and how clean we played; in a game that can be a little bit sloppy with the style that Bakersfield likes to play. These guys will tell you than I was on them this week. Coming of the Hawaii trip because I want this team to focus on the big picture, and become excellent at everything that we need to get better at. I thought that they responded really well to that and they came out today and did a nice job. That being said, I still think that in our growth process we can still reach greater heights, which is exciting. Love these two right here and how they come out and finish plays, and have aggression. They come off the bench and give us a lift and I even want them to be more aggressive; which I think is a fun and exciting prospect. Happy with the win today and I want to win a championship tomorrow on our own court.
On the size difference between Cal and CSU Bakersfield
"We talked about containing penetration and containing the three point line. Obviously they did a good job, particularly on Carter. We were able to take advantage of them inside the paint. It is uncomfortable for bigs sometimes to have anyone to match up with. It's something that we are going to have to face. Bakersfield did a good job playing through their personnel and spreading out; these guys took advantage of them a took a lot of shots."
On CSU playing with six players
"Greg McCall is a good friend of mine. He was the assistant coach there last year and now he's the head coach. He does a really good job; they were dealt a little bit of a difficult hand with some injuries this week. But those players play hard. They never stopped playing hard and I didn't feel like they wore down at all. They do what they do and it makes you work hard and it makes you guard them. I think we did a nice job defensively to hold them under 60."
Freshman forward Justine Hartman
On scoring right when she came into the game
"When I go in, I am right in the middle and no one thinks to really step up on me, so I'm like okay, give it to me and it's just the way I start. And then once they figure it out, I go to the block. Sometimes they don't ever guard me up there so I keep shooting it."
Freshman forward Reshanda Gray
On what her double double was a product of
"I felt like coming out in the first half I was a little slow, so I had a lot of making up to do in the second half because I came off slow. So I had to step it up because she [Gottlieb] was like Gray, you need to pick it up. So I just had to step it up. I missed a great assist from Brittany Boyd. "
