BERKELEY - Three Cal softball players - sophomore outfielder Paige Bowie, freshman pitcher Jocelyn Forest and freshman third baseman Candace Harper - were named second team All-Pac-10, the conference announced today.
In addition, senior first baseman Kirsten Drake, junior second baseman Lisa Iancin and senior shortstop Katie May were voted honorable mention All-Pac-10.
Bowie, from Clovis West High School in Fresno, leads the Bears with a .324 batting average. Cal's leadoff hitter, she also has six doubles and 16 RBI. Bowie was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 pick last year. She also earned Pac-10 honorable mention honors in basketball this past season after leading the Bears in scoring with 11.9 ppg.
Forest is a right hander from Santa Maria's Righetti High School. She has a 19-6 record and a 1.45 ERA with 169 strikeouts in 169 innings. Forest's victory total is the highest for a Cal freshman since All-American Michele Granger was 24-14 in 1990.
Harper, who is out of Lincoln High School in Stockton, is batting .320 with four home runs and 24 RBI. A starter at third base in 54 games this season, she is hitting .500 (9-for-18) over her last six games.
Drake is batting a career-high .304 for the Bears this year, while May is also having her best season with a .301 average. Iancin, a second team conference choice last year, is hitting .289 with a team-leading 30 RBI.
Cal, which is ranked 17th nationally and has a 42-19 overall record, closes out the regular season Saturday when the Bears host No. 15 Stanford at 1 p.m. on Levine-Fricke Field. Seeding for the NCAA Tournament will be announced Sunday afternoon, and Cal is expected to receive an at-large bid.
