Recap |  Final Stats

California Head Coach Mike Montgomery:

On the loss:
We didn't play well. It is certainly something they're doing, sure. We had problems with the 1-3-1 zone and we had problems with their length. We're not big, so we have a hard time passing the ball. The three things we talked about were, taking care of the ball, and they had 24 points off turnovers. We needed them to play against our half court defense. Second thing, we talked about was not giving them second shots, but they got a lot of offensive rebounds. We would get a stop and them boom, we wouldn't get the rebound. They got boards and a lot of second opportunities. The third thing we talked about was tempo. They're going to use a lot of clock, and it doesn't bother them to use clock, they're going to get late in the clock a lot. You need to know how much time is left, so you can defend, and you have to be better at that point. But they'd lull us to sleep and then drive, and we'd reach out and foul. They shoot 36 fouls shots and 24 second chance points on the road? Not going to work.

On the team's ability to bounce back:
We'll bounce back, that's what we do, and we've been pretty good at that. This is a team, where it's been hard to keep them at a certain level the whole time. There was little stuff we could have done, but we just caved in to stuff. Oregon State has been playing well, they have good athletes, and they're very long. That style causes people problems, and we have not handled that zone very well, but we didn't hand the 2-3 zone well either. We couldn't get the rebound and run down the floor to force them to play. There's a team that averages 56 points and they got 80 points, what's that tell you? We didn't play well.

Oregon State Head Coach Craig Robinson

On the team's effort:
It was a great effort from both the players and the staff. When I saw the guys come out at the beginning of the game, I was really pleased with their effort, execution, and it was just a good game all around.

On the effective offense:
It's about efficiency, and what you saw today is what we are capable of. It really was a tribute to an all-around effort. Not only were we more efficient on offense, but we were even better on defense.
