TEMPE, Ariz. - Devanei Hampton posted a career-high 28 points. She tallied her previous career high of 27 points on two occasions, with the last time being at Oregon Feb. 15, 2007.
Hampton now has 1088 career points, moving her from 16th to 14th in school history. She surpassed Courtney Johnson (1077) and Laura Baker (1072).
Cal improved to 16-2 to keep pace with the 1983-84 Bears for the best start in school history. In 1983-84, Cal opened with a 17-2 mark, before losing its 20th game.
At 7-0, Cal continues to build on its best Pac-10 start in school history. The 1991-92 team began 4-0 for the previous longest Cal unbeaten start in Pac-10 play.
Cal defeated Arizona State in Tempe for the first time since a 67-63 decison Feb. 27, 1999.
The Bears extended their winning streak to eight games tonight, which is the longest in program history since the 1991-92 team also won eight games. The school record is 10, set in 1981-82 and 1986-87.
Cal's 21 assists today were one off of the Bears' season high of 22, established against Washington State Dec. 30, 2007.
