Sept. 11, 2006

BERKELEY - California quarterback Nate Longshore has been named the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday. The sophomore had the best game of his young career on Saturday as he directed California's 42-17 victory over Minnesota at Memorial Stadium.

Longshore, a product of Canyon Country, Calif., completed 22-of-31 passes for an even 300 yards and four touchdowns without an interception - all of those numbers were career-bests. After the Golden Bears fell behind early, Longshore found junior receiver Robert Jordan for a 24-yard score to knot the game at seven. He proceeded to find DeSean Jackson three straight times for TDs - a short two-yard delivery on a crossing pattern, a deep 48-yard strike down the sideline and an 11-yarder over the middle to lift the Bears to a 28-14 advantage late in the first half. The performance was Cal's first 300-yard passing effort since Aaron Rodgers during the 2003 season.

"The credit needs to go to the offense as a whole and not to me," Longshore said of the honor. "The offensive line did a good job and the running backs did a good job. They weren't expecting me to throw the ball and that made my job easier. The receivers caught the ball and ran real well and made me look good."

Longshore and the Golden Bears are back in action this Saturday against Portland State, which is ranked No. 13 in the nation in Division I-AA. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
