BERKELEY - It's been an eventful five days for Nort Thornton and his Cal men's swimming team.

Last Saturday at Spieker Pool on the Berkeley campus, the nationally No. 4 ranked Golden Bears upset second-ranked Stanford, 129-114. It marked the first time Cal has beaten Stanford in nearly 14 years and also completed the first undefeated dual-meet season (9-0, 4-0 Pac-10) by a Golden Bear swimming team in Thornton's 31 years as head coach.

And today, news came out of the College Swim Coaches Association that Thornton's Bears have finished No. 1 nationally in the organization's final dual meet poll. With 195 points in the balloting, California beat out second-place Auburn (192) by only three votes. Stanford (184), Florida (181) and Michigan (167) rounded out the Top 5. This is the first time in school history that Cal has finished first in the final CSCAA Dual Meet Poll.

Led by All-Americans Duje Draganja and Milorad Cavic, both 2004 Olympians and past NCAA champions, the 2004-05 Golden Bears now prepare for the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach March 2-5 and the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis March 24-26.

The Top 10 in the CSCAA Dual Meet Poll:
