The 10th-ranked California women's tennis team pulled out a victory over No. 18 Arizona, 7-2, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on Friday, April 10. The win improved Cal's record to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play and completed a sweep of the Wildcats this season.
Cal swept the singles ladder, but not without a fight as the Top 4 singles matches went to three sets. Amanda Augustus, the nation's sixth-ranked player, defeated Arizona's Vicky Maes, ranked 23rd in the nation, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 1 singles battle to set the tone for the Bears.
Claire Curran, returning from an elbow injury, played in her first singles match since March 23, breezing by Vanessa Abel, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles, Amy Jensen and Augustus defeated Joanna Buczowska and Maes, 8-3, to record their 12th victory of the season. The Wildcats claimed the other two doubles matches to prevent a shutout by the Bears.
