San Francisco - The California men's soccer team shut down San Francisco, 2-1, Friday at the Bay Area Classic at Negoesco Stadium. Cal improves to 4-0-1, while San Francisco dropped to 1-2-1.
Senior forward Calen Carr put the Golden Bears on the board in the 11th minute with his second game-winning goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Jacobson and junior defender Andrew Felder assisted on the play when they crossed the ball to Carr, who shot from inside the penalty box and found the open net.
Twenty minutes later Carr was once again active on offense, scoring Cal's second goal in the 32nd minute and insuring the win. Sophomore midfielder Luke Sassano dribbled down the right side of the field and crossed the ball to Carr, who beat San Francisco goalkeeper Geremy Uhl to the net. Carr recorded his third goal for the season.
The Dons came back late in the second half to score in the 86th minute. Junior midfielder Matt Languis assisted sophomore forward Adam Bergman on the shot.
The Bears were solid on defense tonight, with Eric Kronberg tallying four saves and recording his third shutout for the season.
The Bears come home to face No. 7 Santa Clara, Sunday, Sept, 18 at Edwards Stadium at 3:30 p.m. to wrap up the Bay Area Classic.
