Desimone Previews NCAA Championship

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - CalBears.com would like you to get to know the five Cal golfers who will be in the lineup for the No. 3 seeded Golden Bears at the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship to be played Tuesday-Sunday, May 29 - June 3 and hosted by USC at The Riviera Country Club. Here's a look at those five guys from the top to bottom of the lineup.


Brandon Hagy, 5-11, 170, So., 1L, Westlake Village, CA/Westlake HS

GETTING TO KNOW BRANDON:
The most interesting thing about me is ... I'm really good at Ping Pong
The reason I love golf is ... it is so challenging and you get great satisfaction when you play well
The biggest thrill of my life to date is ... making a 20-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole to win the 2011 New Year's Invitational
The reason I chose Cal is ... both superior academics and athletics
The best things about Cal are ... the food and the variety of people who attend school here
What sets Cal golf apart from other collegiate golf programs is ... The 32-plus years experience of our head coach and the incredible golf courses we get to play regularly

The best thing about Cal is ... the free spirit and its vast opportunities

GETTING TO KNOW JOËL
The most interesting things about me are ... I have traveled the world and I am an open-minded person
The reasons I love golf are ... it is the most exciting and complicated game, and it's also very challenging and always provides me with the aspiration to get better
My greatest athletic moment is ... winning the Austrian Amateur
The favorite golf courses I have played are ... Turnberry and Cypress Point
The reasons I chose Cal are ... I wanted to balance school and golf and get a great education
Since coming to Cal, I have learned ... how to face challenges and how to assimilate to a different culture

Pace Johnson, 5-9, 160, Jr., TR, Fresno, CA/Cal Poly/Clovis West HS

GETTING TO KNOW PACE:
The most interesting thing about me is ... that I have never met anyone with the same first name
I would describe myself as ... the most competitive person ever
The reason I love golf is ... some type of new situation is put on the plate every time I play a tournament and that's what really makes it exciting
For me to improve as a person, I need to ... be organized and work as hard as I can on my own weaknesses
My favorite pre-match ritual is ... playing my pre-round playlist on my iPod on the range
The biggest thrill in my life to date is ... skydiving from 13,000 feet, although I'm soon to get higher
The favorite golf course I have played is ... Cypress Point
The reasons I chose Cal are ... the golf program had a reputation for success and I like the idea of diversity
The best thing about Cal is ... the campus because I haven't been to many other places that have neat and old architecture
What sets Cal golf apart from other collegiate golf programs is ... our ability to keep each other in a positive mood no matter what the situation is ... I believe someone even commented to me at the Isleworth tournament last fall that our team always looks like we are having a great time and that is exactly how I feel
My favorite golf movie is ... Caddyshack
My ultimate SportsCenter highlight would be ... making eagle on the last hole in the final group to win by one stroke
I would like to be remembered at Cal for ... winning a national championship
The people who have had the greatest influence in my life are ... my parents
My best advice for youngsters would be ... never give up
