Sept. 1, 2005

BERKELEY, Calif. - The California athletic department, in conjunction with KGO Radio, will be raising money to support the Red Cross' Hurricane Katrina relief efforts Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Golden Bears' football season opener against Sacramento State.

Fans are encouraged to donate money at FunZone, a pre-game tailgate party, at Maxwell Family Field (just North of Memorial Stadium) by stopping by the KGO Radio booth. Cal student-athletes, staff and Red Cross volunteers will also be collecting monetary donations at various entrances of Memorial Stadium until halftime of the football game. Stadium gates open at noon, and kick-off is slated for 2 p.m.

Cash, check or credit cards will be accepted at FunZone and at Memorial Stadium.

American Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to the hardest hit Gulf areas of Katrina's destruction, supplying hundreds of thousands of victims left homeless with critical necessities.

By making a financial gift to Hurricane 2005 Relief, the Red Cross can provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.

Fans who can't make it to Saturday's game can donate money to aid hurrican victims by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW.
