BERKELY - As the Cal men's soccer team prepares for possibly its most successful season in the program's history this fall, head coach Mark Mallon has issued a challenge to friends and alumni of Cal soccer to help assure the success of the program into the 21st century.

Mallon has donated $1000 to the Rolling Thunder Team Fund, which goes towards non-budgeted team items for the Golden Bear men's soccer team.

In the spirit of 1999, Mallon has issued a challenge to 99 friends and alumni of Cal soccer to contribute a similar donation.

There are four funds which benefit the Cal men's soccer program:

1. Rolling Thunder Scholarship Fund
-- endowed student-athlete scholarship
2. Rolling Thunder Team Fund -- non-budgeted team items
3. Robert Levy Scholarship -- endowed student-athlete scholarship
4. Friends of Cal Soccer -- offsets the operational budget

Checks should be made out to UC Regents, with a notation for which fund the donation is for.

Please send checks to Mark Mallon, Cal Men's Soccer, 2223 Fulton, Berkeley, CA 94720.
