BERKELEY - Freshman Agatha Nowinski have each accepted invitations to the USRowing Women's U-23 National Team Camp.
Each Golden Bear has competed on Cal's varsity eight in its two regattas this spring. The duo is are part of a group of 26 competitors invited to the camp. Chase and Nowinski were each selected as sculling rowers.
The camp will start in Princeton, N.J. on June 5 where the fastest combinations of athletes for the camp boats (eight and quad) will be selected. Trials boats will be named after the final race at Under 23 Trials. Camp boat selection will continue until July 10, although it could be finalized prior to that date. Cuts can be made at any time throughout the camp. This camp will select the women's eight and quad to compete at the 2013 World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 24-28 in Linz, Austria. The camp also plans to select the women's pair, four and double to compete at Under 23 Trials June 23-26 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
Chase came in third in pairs and sixth in the four at the 2011 USRowing Youth Nationals. She was also selected as the spare for the 2011 U.S. Junior National team that competed in Eton, England.
An All-Pac-12 honoree last season, Nowinski has been a member of Cal's varsity eight since the start of last year. She helped guide the Golden Bears to a conference title and a fifth-place finish in the NCAA Championships in 2012.
Chase, Nowinski and the rest of the Golden Bears will next compete in the Lake Natoma Invitational on Gold River next Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21.
