CHICAGO -- Cal women's soccer standout Rachel Mercik (2010-13) has been called up to the United States Under-23 Women's National Team training camp, U.S. Soccer and U-23 head coach Steve Swanson announced Monday.
Mercik, who was called up as a midfielder, is one of 24 players on a roster composed entirely of current collegiate players or players who finished their senior season in 2013. She will join the team in Seattle for their third training camp of the year from July 15-22.
The El Dorado Hills, Calif. product has spent her summer playing as a forward for the Bay Area Breeze and spent her 2013 summer playing with the Seattle Sounders Women. She finished her Cal career ranking second on the team for goals scored (six) and assists (four) last season.
