BERKELEY – The California Golden Bears track & field team concluded competition for the weekend at the 56th Annual Mt. Sac Relays on Saturday afternoon at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. Sophomore Randy Bermea set a new PR in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 51.04. That surpassed his previous best of 51.31 from the 2013 outdoor season, which placed him seventh overall, after winning his elite flight. The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of redshirt seniors Dash Oliver, Tom Blocker, redshirt junior Dan Davis and freshman Khalfani Muhammad clocked a time of 40.52, tying for sixth place with Utah State. Additionally, redshirt senior Hammed Suleman leapt a distance of 23-6.25 in the long jump and placed eighth.
“Randy’s PR was a big breakthrough today,” Director of track & field Tony Sandoval said Saturday afternoon. “Randy has worked both the high hurdles indoors and has continued do so outdoors as well, which is really paying off in the intermediates. The margin of error in the 4x100-meter relay is so slight, and we weren’t as efficient as usual in our handoff today. Still, we tied with Utah State for sixth overall, and third among collegiate teams. We will see the Aggies next Saturday at the Brutus as well.”
Cal returns home to host the Brutus Hamilton Open and Challenge next Friday and Saturday, April 25-26 at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley. Field events begin on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw, while the track events begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women’s 4x100-meter relay.56th Annual Mt. Sac Relays
