BERKELEY - California placed 15 swimmers on the 2013-14 Pac-12 All-Academic team announced by the conference Wednesday, led by first-team selection Rachael Acker.

In addition, Stephanie Au, Camille Cheng and Caroline Piehl earned second-team status and 11 Bears received honorable mention.

Acker, who owns a 3.93 GPA at Cal as an undeclared major, is an aspiring doctor and spends part of her time away from the pool working in the Heald Lab within the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology on campus. She discussed her experience and career goals in an edition of the Olympic Sports Report earlier this year.

Au and Cheng are both repeaters from last year’s all-academic squad, with Au becoming a three-time choice.

Among those with honorable mention all-academic honors are three-time selections Melissa Bates, Mikkel-Ane Stipe and Cindy Tran. Catherine Breed, Eva Greene, Melanie Klaren and Taylor Nanfria are two-time picks, while Kaylin Bing, Rachel Bootsma, Kelly Naze and Elizabeth Pelton rounded out the list.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
