COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Buoyed by a school-record score of 304.00 during preliminary qualifying, senior Kahley Rowell captured the platform event at the NCAA Zone E meet Saturday and secured her spot at the NCAA Championships next week.

Rowell added 268.50 points during the finals session for a grand total of 573.50 points to edge out Fresno State’s Hannah Prigge at the top of standings. Prigge finished with 567.60 points. Rowell’s record total from prelims beat her own mark of 299.80 from her second-place showing at the Pac-12 Championships earlier this month.

The win on platform capped a steady rise for Rowell over the past three years. She was third at the zone meet as a sophomore in 2012 and was the platform runner-up last year. Rowell is a two-time All-American for the Bears in the event after placing fifth at nationals in 2012 and eighth in 2013.

In addition to Rowell, Anne Kastler took 16th with a total of 226.65 points from preliminaries and Sara-Lina Boushakra was 19th in 219.45.

The NCAA Championships run March 20-22 in Minneapolis. Cal now has one diver to accompany 16 swimmers who have qualified for the meet.
