ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The California Golden Bears track & field team will have three representatives at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M. Redshirt Junior Chioma Amaechi will be competing in the weight throw competition, while on the men’s side, redshirt senior Hammed Suleman will be looking to win his first NCAA crown in both the long jump and triple jump competitions and senior Milan Ristic will be competing in the 60-meter hurdles at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The meet will be streamed live online on ESPN 3 and will also be available on the Watch ESPN application for many smartphones and tablets, beginning at 4:55 p.m. PT on Friday and Saturday at 4:50 p.m. PT.

Amaechi, a San Francisco native, qualified for the NCAA’s in the weight throw with the sixth best throw nationally, with her best mark of 71-4.25, a school record, on Feb. 14 in Seattle while competing in the Husky Indoor Classic. In addition, two weeks ago she claimed the 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship in the same event, with a throw of 67-2.50. Amaechi will be competing in the field of 16 on Friday night.

Suleman qualified for the indoor championships in the long jump with the 16th best mark in the country, one of 25-3.25 on Jan. 24 at the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque. In addition, he captured the MPSF championship two weeks ago with a leap of 24-6.50, the first MPSF title of his career. The Antioch, Calif. native is also set to compete in the triple jump, ranking 14th nationally this season with a best mark of 52-2.00, set in Albuquerque as well, at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. The long jump competition will take place on Friday, while the triple jump will be held on Saturday.

Ristic, a transfer from UNC Asheville, set a new PR in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 7.69, which broke the Serbian indoor record two weeks ago at the MPSF Championships in Seattle. His time qualified him eighth in a field of 16 for the prelims on Friday evening. The finals will take place on Saturday.

The Golden Bears will return to action in outdoor competition next week at home at Edwards Stadium in the California Multi’s on Thursday, March 20 and Friday, March 21.
