AUBURN, ALA. - Freshman right-hander Daulton Jefferies was again stellar, leading Cal baseball to a 3-0 shutout of East Tennessee State Friday (Feb. 21) at the Tiger Classic in Auburn, Ala. Offensively, the Golden Bears scored all three runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by senior DH Devon Rodriguez and a two-run double by sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris. Senior closer Trevor Hildenberger earned his first save of the season, throwing the final two innings with no hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

Freshman second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz, junior third baseman Brenden Farney and senior shortstop Mike Reuvekamp also recorded hits for Cal, which improved to 3-2 on the year.

Jefferies, who was last week's Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, threw a career-high 7.0 innings with two hits, three walks and a career-high eight strikeouts to improve to 2-0 with his second consecutive shutout. In the Feb. 14 season-opener versus then-No. 18-ranked Texas, he had shutout the Longhorns, pitching 6.0 innings with four strikeouts.

Jefferies was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning, getting the Bucaneers' Chris Cook to fly out to Derek Campbell in right field. The Bears' freshman hurler has now thrown 13.0 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts to start his college career.

"Dauton was outstanding again, and we needed it," said Cal coach David Esquer. "Our bats have been a little slow in coming around, but two big hits by Rodriquez and Halamandaris were key. It was a solid effort by us against a solid opponent."

The Bears next battle host Auburn during the second day of the Tiger Classic, Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. (Central Time).
