A Sports Psychologist Visited The Bears This Week
By Cal Athletics on Wed, February 19, 2014

There is always great energy during the week leading up to home games. This past weekend, we battled against Long Beach State and Santa Clara in front of a full Spieker Aquatics Complex. It was definitely exciting to play some games after our two-week break since the Stanford Tournament.

Our fans were treated to a special performance on Saturday. Kat Menz started off both games by singing the National Anthem. Let me tell you, you should come to the home games just to hear her sing, she has an absolutely beautiful voice!

Leading up to our home games, we had the great opportunity to have Ken Ravizza come and visit the team. Ken is a sport psychologist and a professor at Cal State-Fullerton. Ken has worked with numerous athletes from various U. S. Olympic teams, including men’s water polo, and other individual athletes such as figure skater Gracie Gold, who is currently competing in Sochi. He's also worked with various MLB teams. It was fascinating to hear all of Ken’s stories. He has definitely experienced and dealt with every possible situation that could affect an athlete’s mindset.

We were able to learn some great techniques from Ken. We learned how to refocus a wandering thought and how to keep our head in the game.  Ken also helped by showing us how to change a bad day into a good one. It was a treat and a pleasure to have Ken talk to the team. Thank you to Ken for taking time out of his busy schedule to work with us!

Once again, a member of the Cal women's water polo team won MPSF/KAP 7 Newcomer of the Week. However, it wasn’t Dora (as you may have guessed) but Roser Tarrago!  Congratulations Ru! Ru scored six goals in the Long Beach game, making her mark of 13 goals in just six games. I highly suspect that there will be a battle between Ru and Dora for the award for the remainder of the season but I wouldn’t be surprised if any of our other freshmen stole it from both of them. The entire freshman class is extremely talented! Congrats to Ru again!

Next up is a trip to Irvine! See you all there! GO BEARS!
