BERKELEY – Cal driver Roser Tarrago has been named the MPSF/KAP 7 Newcomer of the Week.

Tarrago, a freshman from Mataro, Spain, tied for the third-highest goal-scoring output in school history when she netted six goals as the No. 4 Bears beat No. 11 Long Beach State 15-7 on Saturday. She added another goal in a 17-6 victory over No. 16 Santa Clara.

Tarrago, who won the Silver Medal for Spain at the 2012 Summer Olympics, has 13 goals in six matches this season, good for a 2.17 goals-per-game average that ranks ninth in the MPSF.

The Bears now have claimed the MPSF/KAP 7 Newcomer of the Week Award four times this season. Freshman Dora Antal, who leads the MPSF with 3.83 goals per game, has earned the honor three times.

Cal (11-1) travels this weekend to the prestigious UC Irvine Tournament, which features 14 teams currently ranked in the CWPA Top-20.
