BERKELEY – California junior guard Brittany Boyd has been named as one of 16 players in the country selected to the 2014 Dawn Staley Award Watch List, the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia announced. Boyd is the lone selection from the Pac-12 on the watch list.
The award was established in 2013 to recognize the nation’s best guard in Women’s Division I college basketball, tying one of the most accomplished women’s basketball players in the world from the Philadelphia Public League to the nation’s best guard in women’s college basketball.
The award will be given annually to a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed throughout her career – ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win.
Boyd, who has earlier this season also been named to the Wade Trophy (WBCA), Lieberman Award (Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame), Wooden Award (Los Angeles Athletic Club) and Naismith Trophy (Atlanta Tip-Off Club) watch lists, is averaging 12.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.31 steals per game for the No. 15 Golden Bears. She ranks second in the NCAA in steals per game, and the number increases to 3.4 steals per game in conference play to go with 18.0 points in Cal’s five Pac-12 games.
