OKLAHOMA CITY – California All-American Valerie Arioto (Pleasanton, Calif.) has been named the USA Softball Female Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced Monday.

This summer, on a team stacked with standouts from collegiate softball programs across the country, Arioto batted .404 with five home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored to lead Team USA to Silver in the General Tire World Cup of Softball, Bronze at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International and Gold at the Pan-American Games/World Championship qualifier.

"This is such a humbling honor to be named the USA Softball Female Athlete of the Year,” said Arioto. “The knowledge I have accumulated from working with the USA Softball staff and my teammates has been a blessing and they have made me better."

Arioto also compiled a .606 on-base percentage and an .830 slugging percentage, with just one error in her 22 outings. The slugger also saw time in the pitching circle where she went 2-0 and allowed just two runs on eight hits in 11.2 innings for a 1.24 ERA.

In her three summers with Team USA, Arioto has demonstrated the same consistency she had as Golden Bear. During her senior season at Cal in 2012, Arioto batted .365 with 23 home runs and 60 RBI for a .626 slugging percentage. Her home run total was a Pac-12 single-season record, and she also won the Senior CLASS Award, given annually to the top senior student-athlete in the nation.
