BERKELEY – Freshman cornerback Caleb Coleman and junior safety Avery Sebastian have been named the Jonathan & Judy Hoff Football Scholar-Athletes of the Week head coach Sonny Dykes announced Thursday.
“I am honored to receive recognition of my hard work in the classroom,” Coleman said. “It can be difficult navigating the academic rigor of Berkeley, but with persistence along with the help of the academic support team I feel I have been put in a position to succeed.”
“I am truly honored to be recognized as the student-athlete of the week,” Sebastian said. “I am thankful for all of the opportunities this university has provided me with to help improve my academic performance. I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and support staff for giving me the necessary help and resources to succeed.”
Each week two Cal football players earn the honor that recognizes student-athletes for an academic skill that has developed through practice, a study habit that has formed into an effective routine, a positive measured outcome that has been achieved through a course assignment or exam, and/or a leadership trait that has been portrayed through academics.
