Wilfley has returned to defensive end during the team’s 2014 training camp after being Cal’s projected starter at one defensive tackle position after switching to the position during his 2013 redshirt season and taking over the starting role during the team’s 2014 spring workouts following. Wilfley has played in one campaign in which he saw action in all 12 games in a reserve tight end role and special teams as a 2012 junior. Wilfley, who will be 24 years old for the 2014 season opener at Northwestern, spent two years on a Mormon mission during the 2010 and 2011 football seasons after playing two previous campaigns at American River College, where he was an All-Mid-Empire Conference selection as a 2009 sophomore.
