Hinder is in his fifth season at Cal in 2014 and listed along with incoming freshmen Chase Forrest and Luke Rubenzer in the team’s backup quarterback role behind starter Jared Goff on the 2014 preseason depth chart. Hinder was the team’s third-string quarterback in 2013 when he lettered for the first time and also saw the first action of his career in a limited role, playing in two games off the bench. Hinder, who did not play in his first three campaigns at Cal, was in a three-way competition for the team’s starting quarterback job along with Goff and Zach Kline during the spring of 2013 and into training camp.
