Marten Earns All-American Status At NCAAs
EUGENE, ORE. --- Sophomore Isabella Marten produced one of the strongest performances of her brief Cal career Friday afternoon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Marten secured her second All-American selection after finishing seventh in the women's triple jump with a leap of 43-9.75 (13.35m). This is the second time Marten has posted a seventh place mark at an NCAA event, placing seventh at NCAA Indoor Championships in mid-March.
In the process of earning her third total All-American honor - she was a 2015 outdoor second teamer at SMU - Marten set a new personal best and improved her standing in the Cal all-time record books by tying Tracey Stewart's third-place mark from 2011.Â
"Isabella came through today and performed exceptionally well. She advanced to the finals by moving from 14th to sixth but dropped to seventh because of a better second jump from her competitor. She backed her All-American status from indoor and we're so proud of her."
Fellow sophomore Ashley Anderson, participating in her first NCAA Championships, also competed in the triple jump but failed to record a legal jump after three attempts.
