BERKELEY – Cal is scheduled to open 2016 spring football practices at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium on Monday, March 7 (3:30 pm PT). The majority of the spring workouts will be open to the public and conclude on Cal Day with the Cal Football Spring Scrimmage televised live by Pac-12 Networks on Saturday, April 16 (11 am PT).
“We are excited to share with our fans what we are doing in the offseason to prepare for the 2016 campaign,” head coach Sonny Dykes said. “College football games are not only won on Saturdays in the fall but with the work put in during the offseason. The work we did to prepare for the 2015 season led to much of the success we enjoyed. We're excited about the upcoming spring practices and using them to help continue the upward trajectory of our football program.”
The Cal Football Spring Scrimmage is an admission free and interactive event that gives thousands of Cal fans an opportunity to better get to know players and coaches in the Cal football program. In addition to the scrimmage, a wide array of Cal Football activities scheduled to take place include opportunities for fans to interact with Cal football players and coaches; commemorative posters (first 2,000 fans); a Fun Zone with photo station and much more to be announced at a later date.
Cal will hold its annual Pro Day on Friday, March 18 (8 am PT). The event will feature former players that are professional football prospects working out for professional football scouts with the public portion of the event at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium expected to begin at approximately 9 am PT. Gates will open one hour in advance.
Cal opens its 2016 season in Australia at the Sydney Cup against Hawaii on Aug. 27 with the teams playing the first college football game ever in Sydney.
