SACRAMENTO – The No. 25 California women claimed second and the No. 30 Golden Bear men claimed third at the Capital Cross Challenge hosted by Sacramento State Saturday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course complex.

The Golden Bear women earned their second top three finish of the season Saturday with their 51 points for second place. LMU won the women's title with 39 points, and Nevada, Sacramento State and San Diego rounded out the top five. Hawaii, Pepperdine, UC Davis, Pacific and St. Mary's finished 6-10 at the meet.

Jordyn Colter led the women with a time of 17:06.7 to place sixth individually. The trio of Nuria Tio Peig (17:14.6), Mariel Mendoza (17:16.8) and Megan Bordes (17:20.1) finished 9-10-11 to help the Bears rush towards the top of the team standings. Natalie Herberg placed 15th and Katherine Haysbert was 37th.

The men finished third with 54 points, being narrowly edged out by St. Mary's (48 points) and LMU (52 points) in the top three of the team standings. Pepperdine was fourth with 102 points followed by Sacramento State (132 points), San Diego (152 points) and UC Davis (155 points).

Max Leach led the Cal men, finishing fifth individually at 25:00.5. Cameron Tu claimed ninth at 25:06.2, and the trio of Steve Correa, Ellis Newton and Josh Lewis nearly finished back to back, taking 12th, 13th and 15th, respectively to round out the Golden Bear scorers.
