California Earns Bid To 16th Consecutive NCAA Regional

BERKELEY – Head coach Nancy McDaniel’s women’s golf team earned its 16th consecutive bid to the NCAA Regionals after it was announced that California will head to St. George, Utah, for the regional that is hosted by BYU from May 7-9.

The tournament will be held at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club with a field of 18 teams and six other individuals competing for the right to become one of six teams that will advance to the NCAA National Championships. California was an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals and is seeded 10th in the St. George Regional.

The Entrada at Snow Canyon has served as the host site of the annual BYU Entrada Classic as well as the 2007 NCAA West Regional. California competes annually in the Entrada Classic won this season’s tournament with a 284-284-288=856 (-8), finishing 20 strokes ahead of the competition. The Golden Bear trio of Lucia Gutierrez, Hannah Suh and Marthe Wold finished second, third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 210 (-6), 212 (-4) and 213 (-3).

Cal has advanced out of the regional and qualified for the National Championship eight times, including last season when the Bears finished 4th at the Central Regional in Stillwater, Okla., and went on to finish 22nd at the National Championships. The Bears’ best finish at the Regionals came in 2003 when the team won the Central Regional.

Six teams and the top three individuals not on those six teams will advance from the four Regionals. The NCAA National Championships will be held May 22-27 in Bradenton, Fla.

COURSE: Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club (par 71; 6,255 yards) – St. George, Utah

FORMAT: Three-day, 54-hole tournament with 18 holes each day. The top-four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round. The top six finishing teams and the three highest placing individuals not on one of those six teams will advance to play in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship Finals at The Concession Golf Club (Bradenton, Fla.) from May 22-27.
