Williams Earns Third-Straight Freshman of the Week Award

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal freshman gymnast Toni-Ann Williams vaulted her way to her third consecutive Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday. Williams set a program-record 9.975 on vault to win the event at No. 15 UCLA on Sunday.

Utah's Georgia Dabritz was named the Gymnast of the Week and UCLA's Peng-Peng Lee was voted Specialist of the Week.

Williams is the first freshman gymnast to ever claim three consecutive Pac-12 Freshman of the Week awards, and only the second gymnast to claim three total awards since the conference introduced the weekly honor in 2013.

The Randallstown, Md., product made Golden Bear history this weekend by posting Cal's first-ever 9.975 on vault and set a new program-record for the event. She bested her nearest competition by one-tenth of a point to win vault, and added a second title by posting a 38.900 all-around effort. Williams was runner-up on floor with a 9.90.

Last season, Charlie Owens and Jessica Howe combined for a conference-leading four Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors out of a possible 11 weeks.

Williams and the Bears return to action Sunday to play host to Bay Area and Pac-12 rival Stanford at Haas Pavilion. The meet begins at noon and will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
