Jolene Henderson Becomes First Player Ever to Sign with NPF Dallas Charge
DALLAS – Former Golden Bear standout Jolene Henderson, who made history in 2013 by becoming Cal's all-time winningest pitcher, has made history once again as the first player ever to sign with National Pro Fastpitch's new expansion team, the Dallas Charge. Henderson will join the Charge for its inaugural season beginning Summer 2015, the team announced Tuesday.
”To be the first player in Dallas Charge history is definitely an honor. Playing in the NPF is an experience that I am thrilled to be a part of, and I look forward to playing with—and competing against—many of the best players in the world, which is exactly what the NPF is all about.” Henderson told the Charge.
Henderson led the Bears in the circle from 2010-13, recording a 130-35 record and 1.63 career ERA. She was a three-time NFCA All-American, 2012 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year and finalist for both USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and the Senior CLASS Award. Last season, she played professionally for Team Denso in Japan and was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team, helping Team USA capture a gold medal and two silver medals in international tournaments last summer.
”We are excited that Jolene has agreed to be part of the Dallas Charge. As the name of the game indicates, the contest starts in the circle and to anchor our team with a person of Jolene's caliber on and off the field gives the Charge a chance to be competitive in our inaugural season,” said Charge General Manager Kevin Shelton.
Henderson and the Charge begin their inaugural season on June 3, 2015 against the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
