Cal concludes a three-meet homestand when the Golden Bears host Wisconsin in a dual Friday that will feature swimmers and divers from the men's and women's teams.

This marks the third consecutive year Cal and Wisconsin have met at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Bears won last year, 163-111, and claimed the 2012 match-up, 170-110.

The Badgers are led by head coach Whitney Hite, now in his fourth season at the helm. He served as an assistant for Cal coach Teri McKeever from 2004-06.

To date, the Bears have recorded 18 swims in nine events that meet the NCAA B qualifying standard. Missy Franklin (50, 100, 200 free), Elizabeth Pelton (100 and 200 back; 200 IM) and Cierra Runge (500, 1000, 1650 free) all lead the team with best overall times in three events each. Marina Garcia (100 and 200 breast) and Celina Li (200 fly, 400 IM) top the squad in two different events.

8 Bears Names to USA Squads: Eight Golden Bears have been chosen to represent the United States in international competition next summer with spots on the 2015 World Championships, 2015 Pan American Games and 2015 World University Games teams. Three current members of the program will be heading to Kazan, Russia, next Aug. 2-9 for the World Championships. Sophomore Missy Franklin, who captured a record six gold medals at the 2013 World meet, is slated to compete in four individual events – 100m and 200m back and 100m and 200m free – and could be added to any of three relay squads. Franklin won both backstrokes and the 200m free, in addition to gold in the 400m and 800m free relay and 400m medley relay, in 2013.

In addition, junior Rachel Bootsma will race in the 50m back after capturing the U.S. title at the Phillips 66 National Championships this past summer, and freshman Cierra Runge qualified in the 400m free and for the 800m free relay.

The Pan American Games will be held July 14-18, 2015, in Toronto and will feature Cal alumnae Natalie Coughlin (50m and 100m free) and Caitlin Leverenz (200m and 400m IM).

Finally, the U.S. World University Games roster will include current Bears Bootsma (100m back), senior Melanie Klaren (200m back), sophomore Celina Li (200m IM) and junior Elizabeth Pelton (100m back).

Cal Falls to Texas is Close Dual: California built an early lead against Texas, but the Longhorns came through with a strong finish, winning five of the final six events, to edge the Golden Bears, 161-139, on Oct. 31 at home.

The meet came down to the final event, with Cal needing to take the first two spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay to clinch a tie. But Texas claimed first and third place in the race to hold off the Bears.

Junior Elizabeth Pelton captured the 100 (53.79) and 200 (1:54.33) backstroke, the 200 individual medley (1:58.69) and anchored the victorious 400 medley relay. Sophomore Missy Franklin also prevailed in the 100 (50.13) and 200 (1:47.37) free.
