Cal-UCLA Postgame Notes
BERKELEY - With today's 36-34 UCLA win, the Bruins snapped a seven-game road losing streak at Cal.
Jared Goff ended the game 25-for-41 for 303 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Goff posted his 10th career 300-yard passing game, which ties him for first all-time in that category with Pat Barnes, while his 13th 250-yard passing performance ranks tied for second with Rich Campbell and Troy Taylor. Now with 24 touchdown passes this season, he ranks tied for third with Nate Longshore (2006) and Aaron Rodgers (2004) on the school's single-season list. His 42 career passing touchdowns rank eighth on the career list. Goff also had a personal-best 19-yard run.
Daniel Lasco picked up his fifth and sixth rushing touchdowns of the season – eighth and ninth of his career. Lasco paced Cal in rushing with 19 carries for 44 yards and the two TDs. It was the second multi-touchdown game of his career and his first game with two rushing touchdowns. His other multi-touchdown game was at Washington State (one receiving, one rushing TD).
Trevor Davis caught his fourth touchdown of the season and ended the day with three catches for 29 yards and the score. He also entered the game with seven kick returns for 281 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the afternoon with three returns for 88 yards, including a 45-yarder.
With his second quarter touchdown reception, Chris Harper became Cal's active leading receiver in career touchdown catches, now with 11 for his career and four this season. Harper was Cal's leading receiver on the day with five catches for 29 yards and the TD.
Bryce Treggs has now caught a reception in 27 of the last 28 games that he has played in and his last 21 contests in a row. He caught four passes for 41 yards on the day.
Kenny Lawler had a career-best 49-yard reception in the third quarter. His second catch was good for a 23-yard touchdown reception from Goff. His 88 receiving yards were a career high. Lawler now has 11 touchdowns in 18 career games.
Luke Rubenzer threw his second career touchdown pass in the second quarter to Harper.
Hardy Nickerson notched his second career fumble recovery in the second quarter. The fumble was forced by Trey Cheek, the first of his career. Nickerson later forced his first career fumble that was recovered by Cedric Dozier, also the first of his career. Cal entered the game with one fumble recovery on the season. Patrick Worstell also had his first career forced fumble in the third quarter.
Cameron Walker notched his first career interception in the fourth quarter. Michael Lowe tied his personal best 11 tackles, while Stefan McClure also tied his personal best with nine takedowns. Trevor Kelly finished with a career-high five tackles.
This was the second game of the season in which Cal won the turnover battle (3-1). The Bears had a +1 turnover margin vs. Sacramento State. Cal turned those three turnovers into a season-high 21 points. The Bears had 21 points off turnovers total for the season coming into the game.
Bryce McGovern made his first career appearance at safety.
Cole Leininger's 54-yard punt in the second quarter was a season-best.
Matt Anderson made his debut today, marking the 42nd Bear to make his debut this season.
