SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Networks, in partnership with corporate sponsor Chevron, is producing a series of vignettes focusing on the successes of some of the highest achieving student-athletes in STEM disciplines, and two of the segments feature Golden Bears Rachael Acker and Omid Jalali. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Acker, a junior member of the women’s swimming & diving team on a pre-med track, captured a Pac-12 title in the 200 free in 2013 and earned a national championship in the 800 free relay this year. She was named as an Academic All-American in 2014 with a 3.93 GPA.
Jalali, a senior and co-captain on the men’s soccer team, is majoring in business and is also on a pre-med track. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic first team last year with a GPA of 3.85. Cal’s 2014 season begins this Friday as the No. 7 Bears travel to the Tar Heel state to take on No. 22 North Carolina at 4:00 p.m. PT.
