BERKELEY -- Cal's final game of the season ended with a 14-0, run-rule loss to eighth-ranked Washington Saturday at Levine-Fricke Field. The Golden Bears finish the season with a 23-29 overall record with a 4-18 Pac-12 record.
Junior Danielle Henderson managed the Bears' only hit of the day, breaking up Washington ace Kaitlin Inglesby's no-hitter at the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field. Inglesby (13-4) finished with 6 strikeouts and a walk. Cal’s pitching staff allowed 13 hits, with all four members of the Golden Bear pitching staff seeing time in the circle against the Huskies. Freshman Stephanie Trzcinski (8-15) suffered the loss.
The Huskies used three homers to put up four of their runs, first with a solo long ball from Hooch Fagaly at the top of the second. Kylee Lahners hit a two-run home run to left field at the top of the third, and pinch hitter Makenzie Pletcher added another solo homer at the top of the fourth.
Washington started the game with an early lead, scoring runs on a ground out, a single and a two-run double by Kelli Suguro at the top of the first for four runs.
Along with Fagaly’s shot at the top of the second, Whitney Jones and Suguro hit back-to-back RBI singles and the Huskies pulled away with a 7-0 lead.
The top of the third feature an RBI double from Victoria Hayward plus the Lahners homer for a 10-0 Washington lead after three innings.
Inglesby added a hit at the top of the fourth that scored two before Lahners doubled for Washington’s 14th and final run.
Without a .500 record, Cal is not eligible for the NCAA softball postseason. This is the first time in 29 seasons that Cal did not qualify for the postseason. The 64-team NCAA Softball Tournament field will be announced Sunday at 7 p.m. PT live on ESPNU.
