CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Despite a weekend of gray skies and downpours, the California softball team found a bright spot in a 13-3 win over Oregon State Sunday morning. The Bears outhit the Beavers 17-6 in the lone game of the series after two of the games were cancelled due to rain. Cal improves to 19-11 overall and 3-1 in Pac-12 play.

All but one player in Cal’s starting lineup tallied a hit, and every Bear reached base and scored at least once. Junior Cheyenne Cordes (1-for-3) led with three runs and three RBI after a three-run homer. Junior Danielle Henderson went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and sophomore Vanessa Alvarez went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Freshman Katie Sutherland-Finch (6-3) doled out a career-high seven strikeouts, pitching the full seven with six hits, three earned runs and four walks. Amanda Najdek took the loss after allowing six earned runs and five walks with only four strikeouts.

The Beavers were the first to strike, scoring at the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Alexis Gonzalez that scored Ya Garcia after she reached base on a fielder's choice.

Cal answered at the top of the third. Cordes drew a walk, then moved a base over on a single by freshman Kylie Reed. A single to the outfield by junior Henderson sent Cordes home to tie the game up.

Five crossed the plate at the top of the fourth, with seniors Ashley Decker and Victoria Jones reaching base on an error and a single, respectively. Sophomore Vanessa Alvarez doubled to left field for Cal's second run of the day after Decker scored. Though senior LaRisa Jones hit into a fielder's choice that took V. Jones out on the throw home, Cordes followed with a three-run shot to right center, putting the Bears up 5-1. Junior Breana Kostreba added a sixth run with an RBI single that scored Henderson, who also singled to get on base.

A flurry of runs came across at the top of the seventh as Cal put up seven more runs for a 13-run game. Alvarez started the inning off with a leadoff single to center field, moving over on a grounder by L. Jones. Cordes walked, and then Reed singled up the middle to score Alvarez. Henderson continued the chain with a walk that loaded the bases, and the Oregon State defense could not shut the Bears down. Senior Alex Robben used a fielder's choice to get all the way to second as both Cordes and Reed scored on an error at first base.

With Robben on second and Henderson at third, Kostreba singled through the right side and Henderson scored. A ground out to first by Decker scored Robben, leaving only Kostreba on the diamond at second base. Kostreba quickly cleared off when the Beaver third baseman knocked V. Jones' ball into foul territory when she tried to field it, and V. Jones landed safe on second. Finally, Alvarez returned for her second at bat of the inning, singling up the middle and plating V. Jones.

Oregon State got another two runs in at the bottom of the second when Garcia singled and Dani Gilmore followed with a homer to right field to score them both.

Cal will play its rescheduled Pacific game this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Stockton, Calif. before opening Pac-12 home play against Arizona State from Friday through Sunday.
