SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal baseball - highlighted by a four-run second inning, stellar pitching from seniors Kyle Porter and Trevor Hildenberger, and an inside the park two-run homer by freshman left fielder Aaron Knapp - upended No. 6 Cal Poly, 8-3, Saturday night in San Luis Opispo.

With the win, the Golden Bears (11-10) snapped Cal Poly's 18-game home winning streak and the Mustangs suffered only their fourth loss of the season.

Porter improved his record to 3-1 by throwing 5.1 innings with five hits, three runs, no walks and four strikeouts. Hildenberger tallied his fifth save of the season by going the final 3.2 innings with one hit, no walks and four strikeouts.

Knapp, whose brother, Andrew, was standout catcher for Cal and a second round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013, hit his inside the park homer in the eighth inning.

Other top hitters for the Bears were sophomore first baseman Nick Halamandaris (3-for-4, double), sophomore catcher Mitchell Kranson had a two-run single in the second inning, senior designated hitter Devon Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a double, junior shortstop Derek Campbell was 2-for-3, and junior second baseman Brenden Farney had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Besides his inside the park homer, Knapp also had a fielder's choice RBI in the sixth inning. The Bears finished the evening with 12 hits and snapped a five-game losing streak.

"This was a really good win for our team," said Bear coach David Esquer. "We have been struggling to score runs and today we came through with some big hits. Kyle Porter gave us a solid start and Trevor Hildenberger was outstanding out of the bullpen.

Cal will next play Cal Poly in the third game of the four-game series Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at Baggett Stadium. The Bears had fallen to the Mustangs, 4-1, Friday night.
