FRESNO, CALIF. – Cal baseball was limited to three hits and Fresno State’s Will Munro threw a complete game as the Bulldogs (14-7) defeated the Golden Bears, 6-0, Tuesday night (March 18) at Beiden Field in Fresno.
The Golden Bears (10-9) only got singles from junior right fielder Derek Campbell in the second inning, sophomore left fielder Brian Celsi in the third inning and freshman second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz in the seventh inning. Munro ended up throwing 9.0 innings with one walk and six strikeouts to improve his record to 2-0.
The losing pitcher for Cal was freshman right-hander Alex Martinez (0-2), who went 4.0 innings with six hits, three runs, two earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. The Bears were also plagued by four errors. Fresno State broke open a 1-0 lead with two runs in the third inning and then scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Cal next travels to No. 7-ranked Cal Poly (17-3) for a four-game series in San Luis Obispo. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, 1 p.m. Sunday, March 23 and 3 p.m. Monday, March 24.
After the series versus the Mustangs, the Bears return to Pac-12 play with a three-game series versus Utah, March 28-30 at Evans Diamond, followed by a non-conference game versus Stanford on April 1 at 7 p.m. at Evans Diamond.
