No. 4 Bears Fall To Top-Ranked USC

Cal Moves To 14-4 Overall And 1-1 In The MPSF

LOS ANGELE -- Freshman Anna Illes scored three goals and fellow freshman Roser Tarrago added two but the No. 4 Cal women's water polo team fell to No. 1 USC 12-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Kelly McKee and Victoria Williams also scored for the Bears (14-4, 1-1 MPSF), who dropped their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match of the season.

Freshman goalie Madeline Trabucco made eight saves for the Bears, who played their second straight game without MPSF leading scorer Dora Antal, who is sidelined with an arm injury. Junior Tiera Schroeder and sophomore Pippa Saunders also were unable to play.

The Bears fell behind 5-2 after the first period but stabilized things a bit in the second quarter and trailed 8-5 at the half. But the Trojans (15-0, 3-0) outscored Cal 3-0 to take an 11-5 lead heading into the final period.

Cal will stay in Southern California to take on No. 9 Loyola Marymount on Sunday at Noon.
