BERKELEY – Featuring a new video scoreboard and lights at Evans Diamond, the Cal baseball program will be showcasing its recent facility upgrades as the Golden Bears will be televised 13 times on the Pac-12 Networks during the 2014 regular season, head coach David Esquer and the Pac-12 Conference announced Wednesday (Dec. 10).

Seven of Cal’s televised games in 2014 will be home contests at Evans Diamond, including two games against Bay Area rival Stanford (6 p.m. March 4 and 7 p.m. April 1), a game against 2013 National Champion UCLA (2 p.m. March 16), and three games against 2012 National Champion Arizona (4 p.m. May 16, 4 p.m. May 17 and 3 p.m. May 18).

The Golden Bears’ schedule includes 26 home games at Evans Diamond, including hosting a four-game series against Texas, Feb. 14-16 at Evans Diamond, to open the 2014 campaign. Cal will also be hosting the Cal Baseball Classic March 7-9 at Evans Diamond with Arkansas, Tulane and San Francisco joining the Bears. Additionally, Cal will be hosting Pac-12 series versus the defending NCAA champion Bruins (March 14-16), Utah (March 28-30), Washington (April 17-19), 2013 CWS participant Oregon State (May 2-4) and the 2012 national champ Wildcats (May 16-18).

The other Bear baseball games earmarked for television include two games of the Cal-Stanford Pac-12 series April 26-28 at Sunken Diamond (2 p.m. April 27 and 6 p.m. April 28), and the final three games of the 2014 regular season at Oregon, May 22-24, at PK Park in Eugene (game times 7 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.).

The cost of single game tickets for the upcoming season will be $10 for adults and $5 for youth (17 and under) and seniors. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase flex passes for the 2014 home schedule – a 20 Ticket Flex Pack will be $99 for adults and $49 for seniors (65 and over); and a Family Flex Ticket Pack with be $299 (20 coupons for two adults and up to six youth).

“This year’s schedule is as challenging as we have ever had,” said Esquer, the 2011 National Coach of the Year who will be entering his 15th season guiding the Bears in 2014. “This could easiest be one of the toughest schedules in the nation as well. Our schedule includes top teams from outside our conference like Texas, Arkansas and Tulane; and Pac-12 powerhouses like defending national champion UCLA and Oregon State. It should be a schedule that is exciting for our fans to come watch.”

Cal Baseball fans should also make plans to attend the third annual Fan Fest, Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Evans Diamond. Following the Fan Fest festivities, there will be a Blue-Gold intrasquad scrimmage beginning at 1 p.m. for a preview of the 2014 Bears.

The 2014 Cal baseball team returns 28 players from last year’s squad and has an impressive freshman class. The Bears return five members from the 2011 College World Series squad – seniors Derek Campbell, Michael Theofanopoulos, Kyle Porter, Vince Bruno and Devon Rodriguez. Campbell was the starting second baseman for the Bears as a freshman at the CWS, Theofanopoulos is a talented left-handed pitcher/utility player, Porter was a freshman All-American left-hander in 2011 and picked up Cal’s CWS victory over Texas A&M in Omaha, Bruno was an honorable mention all-conference selection in 2011 and Rodriguez was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2011 Houston Regional after knocking in the game-winning hit in the Bears’ dramatic come-from-behind victory over Baylor to advance Cal to the 2011 Super Regionals in Santa Clara.

Several members of the Bears’ squad played well this summer in semi-pro ball. Junior infielder Chris Paul and sophomore outfielder Brian Celsi shined for the St. Cloud (Minn.) Rox and the Fayetteville (N.C.) SwampDogs, respectively; while Cal standouts Brenden Farney, Porter and Dylan Nelson played well in the Alaska League; and Nick Halamandaris, Colin Monsour and Michael Lowden excelled in the Northwoods League.

Another player who had a solid summer was senior shortstop Mike Reuvekamp, who batted .262 with two doubles, a home run and 18 RBI this summer for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League. Last season, Reuvekamp produced three game-winning RBI for Cal – versus Michigan, Fresno State and Washington State.

Two more top returners are sophomore right-hander Ryan Mason and sophomore outfielder Devin Pearson, who both had stellar freshman campaigns. Mason became the Bears’ No. 1 starter and went 5-3 with a 3.76 ERA, while Pearson hit .302 with a team-high seven stolen bases.

The Bears will also be welcoming in 12 newcomers, with eight letter of intent signees – Andrew Buckley, a 6-1, 220-pound right-hander from Concord (De La Salle High School); Lucas Erceg, a 6-1, 188-pound right-handed pitcher/left-handed hitting shortstop from Westmont High School in Campbell, Calif.; Trevin Haseltine, a 6-3, 215-pound right-hander from Vacaville (Will C. Wood High School, named the third-best player in the Far West League this summer by Baseball America); Daulton Jefferies, a 5-11, 175-pound right-handed pitcher/infielder from Atwater (Buhach Colony High School, drafted 39th round by Miami); and Aaron Knapp, a 6-0, 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder from Granite Bay (Granite Bay High School).

Also signing early national letters of intent with the Bears for 2013-14 were Alex Martinez, a 5-11, 190-pound right-hander from Union City (Logan High School); Alex Schick, a 6-6, 195-pound right-handed pitcher from San Diego (Cathedral Catholic High School, drafted 17th round by Houston) and Robbie Tenerowicz, a 6-1, 188-pound middle infielder from Moraga (Campolindo High School, drafted 39th round by Washington).
