It never ceases to amaze me how quickly seasons fly by. Our fall ball season quickly came to a close with our alumni game last Friday. It was a fast-paced, intense game with our alumni, many of whom haven’t lost much since they’re playing days at Cal. The “Olden Bears” actually won the game with the help of a few seniors and juniors to pull away and maintain the lead.
This year celebrates the 15th year anniversary of the program, and it was great to see players like Laura Forrest (‘03) and Sarah Wheatley (‘02) in attendance who were part of the very first lacrosse teams here at Cal. Their former coach and first varsity lacrosse coach here, Jill Malko, was even here in umpire stripes to keep the game clean and orderly. A solid showing and a great foundation for next year’s game.
As our time on the field tapers down, the academic load is coming to a peak as our players tackle papers, prep for midterms and soon to be finals. Instead of big group team concepts, we’ll spend more time on individual skills and strength and conditioning with the hope of going into winter break as close to top form as we can. We’ll hit the film room for the first time this week and sample a little bit of what the spring will look like. Should be a fun week and hopefully a chance for our players to catch up on work with the extra time in their schedules! Go Bears!
