In our first installment of the Freshman Follow-Up featuring the 2012-13 Cal softball rookies, CalBears.com checked in with Vanessa Alvarez to find out how her first season for the Blue & Gold went. This week, we’re catching up with Taylor Lee to get her impressions on her freshman season. Lee, who hails from San Diego, Calif., is the younger sister of current Golden Bear junior Mary Lee and was named an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete for her impressive 3.88 GPA during the 2012-13 academic year.
Check back every week in October to read a new Q&A with one of last year’s freshmen.

Taylor Lee: My favorite part of my first year was traveling with the team because we always had a lot of fun on the road.
CalBears.com: What was your favorite softball game or series in 2013, and why?

CalBears.com: What was your favorite class?
TL: My favorite class was my Organic Chemistry class. There were just so many cool aspects to the class that applied to things I knew about, but wasn’t aware of how they worked.
CalBears.com: What was the best part about being a student-athlete at Cal?
TL: The best part about being a student-athlete at Cal was representing the school and being able to be competing at the best level of competition on the field.
CalBears.com: What is the best thing you learned your freshman year (either on the field or in the classroom)?
TL: The best thing I learned all year was how to stay organized and on top of my school work since we did a lot of traveling.

CalBears.com: What is your funniest or most embarrassing memory from your freshman year?
TL: My funniest memory from freshman year was when LaRisa (Jones) would dance in the dugout before the games. It never failed to put a smile on my face!
