BERKELEY – No. 4 ranked Cal (5-0) dominated its opening match of the NorCal Invitational, defeating Air Force, 17-8, Saturday (Sept. 21) at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Golden Bears, who were led by sophomore Mitchell Hamilton’s three goals, will next play Long Beach State at 6:15 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics. Long Beach State is coached by former Cal All-American and Olympian Gavin Arroyo.
Other top scorers for the Bears against the Falcons were senior Collin Smith, junior Graham Nesbit, junior Chris Daniel, freshman Farrell South and freshman Chandler Jarrels-Stickney with two goals apiece. Cal had 10 different players score. Senior goalie Michael Boggan finished with five saves, while Nesbit paced the Bears with three steals.
Kirk Everist’s squad jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first period and owned a 9-2 advantage at the half.
