BERKELEY - Midfielder/forward Jose Carrera-Garcia signed a National Letter of Intent with California, men's soccer head coach Kevin Grimes announced on Wednesday. Carrera-Garcia has starred for the past few years for the Arsenal FC club in southern California.
A product of Ontario, Calif., and Chaffey High School, Carrera-Garcia gives the Golden Bears an eight-man class, including seven players who signed in February.
"As a player, Jose brings a number of incredible skill sets to our team," Grimes said. "Jose should also be commended for his outstanding academic work this past semester. He now has a true sense of what a student-athlete must be with this program. There are a number of family members, coaches and close friends that are very proud of Jose today. We appreciate his loyalty and look forward to him getting his degree from one of the world's most prestigious universities."
In February, Grimes signed the following seven recruits: Chris Argueta (defender), Randell Black (goalkeeper), Matt Chasman (forward), Nick Lima (forward), Trevor Long (defender), Tommy Padia (midfielder) and Christian Thierjung (forward). All eight new Bears are California natives, with five hailing from the southern part of the Golden State and three coming from northern California.
